Veterans Day Thanks, Holiday Extravaganza Needs, Computer Glitch

By Darla Winstead - Publisher of Macaroni Kid Annapolis November 11, 2022

Hi Friends,

So Many - What to Choose?

Now that everyone is offering in person events there are many to choose from. To help you out, Macaroni KID Annapolis will publish 5 Things to DO This Week in Annapolis in each weekly e-news and on our website. The first one is live on the website now.

Veterans Day Events and Freebies - Nov. 11th

My family includes many veterans over hundreds of years including my husband, father, father-in law, and grandfather. This weeks article, Veterans Day in Annapolis: Events, Freebies, and History includes several family friendly events this weekend. If you only have time for one, my suggestion is Hands-On History Day at the Museum of Historic Annapolis: Salute to Veterans! on Sunday, November 13, from 10am-2pm. This will be great for kids! The article also includes talking points to help you explain the holiday to your children.

If you or someone in your family are a veteran then Veterans Day is your day to be celebrated, recognized, and thanked. What you do/did is very important. Because of you, the people in the United States of America have many freedoms, opportunity, and way of life to be thankful for. I understand the sacrifices you and your family have made. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you!

National Recycling Day - Nov. 15th

This holiday brings awareness to recycling so this week I've included the article, 5 Ways To Recycle Your Old Stuff Instead of Throwing It Out. There are some great ideas your family can use. For years my family recycled items in our curbside bin. Over the years, I've learned most of our stuff went to the trash dump instead. Why? We didn't follow the rules. We placed the items in a trash bag to keep our bin clean and dry - then found out anything in a bag is discarded. Some of my family members are not the best at cleaning items before they recycle. Items placed in the bin must be clean and dry.

Share these local resources with your family to Reuse-Reduce-Recycle

Holiday Extravaganza - Dec. 10th

Save the Date: Dec. 10th from 10-2 at Caliente Grill in Annapolis, event will be limited to 150 children

I was hoping to have all the information for you this week but that didn't happen. I'm working on a Facebook event page and Event Bright page so you can get details about the event at start registering. I'm so excited about what we are putting together for your kiddos.

I'm still looking for entertainment, volunteers, and business participants.

  • If you have a dance group, choir, or other entertainment that would appeal to kids of all ages, email me A.S.A.P.
  • We would love to have representatives share about traditions of various winter holidays such as Hanukah, Kwanza, and Christmas. Email me if you or someone you know would be interested in sharing customs and traditions with children.
  • Volunteers needed (14+) to run activities and direct cars in the parking lot. This would be good for a scout troop, service club, or place of worship.
  • Business sponsors wanted. Share your message with our participating families by including something in our giveaway bags, or purchasing items needed for one of our activity tables.

More info to come and family sign ups will start in a few weeks.

Error on Event Times in Calendar -

Ugh! Due to a computer glitch related to the time change last weekend, many of the events in the Macaroni KID Annapolis Events Calendar are off by an hour. Ugh, I am so sorry! I just discovered this today and will correct as soon as I can. In the meantime, please double check times with organizations putting on events. You can do this simply by clicking on the website or Facebook links provided in each event in our calendar. I have corrected the ones for the upcoming week before this week's newsletter was published.

Speaking of time change, how is your family doing? We are struggling. Last night around 7:30, everyone was exhausted and ready for bed. With teens, this is unheard of! How are the mornings for those of you with little ones in elementary school?

Until next week ... Peace, Love and Macaroni!

- Darla
