Summit is a school where DIFFERENT can mean EXCEPTIONAL, where essential learning
outcomes are identified and measured. The Summit School is the only school in Anne Arundel County exclusively serving students with dyslexia and other learning differences in grades 1-8.
Literacy is infused throughout the program and students receive explicit instruction in every subject. Our school is widely recognized for academic excellence and researched-based
methodologies. Highly-trained teachers maximize students’ strengths and support areas of weakness. When a student comes to us, we meet them where they are and bring them up to where they need to be. Students receive individualized instruction in language arts, math, science, and social studies. Instruction is not only rigorous, it is relevant. Instructional highlights include:
- Research-based methodologies
- Activity-based multisensory learning
- WordSense™
- Read Naturally® Live
- EmPOWERTM writing program
- Social Thinking™
- STEM infused curriculum
- Standards-based math
Measurable Outcomes & Life Changing Impacts
Continuous progress monitoring supports student growth and success. Summit employs Benchmark Testing three times per year to evaluate students, in math and reading, against specific grade-level standards and learning goals. The results give teachers actionable
data and prescribes a course of action.
“When I came to Summit, I thought I was stupid. Now, I know that I am smart and I learn differently. Summit gave me the tools and confidence to succeed.” - Summit Alumni Student
Summit empowers students and prepares them for success in high school and beyond. Our alumni students attribute much of their success to the foundation they received at The Summit School.
