Macaroni KID Craft: DIY Paper Straw Necklace

By Sarah Hauge, Publisher, Macaroni Kid, Englewood, Greenwood Village, Centennial July 28, 2023

There's something about plastic jewelry-making beads that end up all over my house when we use them for craft projects. What a mess! We swapped out those plastic nightmares for paper straws and never looked back.

Make your own festive necklaces with a few easy-to-find supplies. Whether you're getting dressed up for a special event, gearing up for Mardi Gras, or looking for a "just because" project, these paper straw necklaces are a mom-approved craft that is suitable for even the youngest of artisans.

Supplies Needed:

  • Paper Straws ~ We found our rainbow unicorn themed straws at Target
  • String
  • Needle (optional)
  • Embellishments (optional) ~ stickers, paper cutouts, charms

Instructions:

  1. Cut the paper straws into smaller segments. Our straws are cut to 3/4 inches long.
  2. String the paper straws onto your ribbon/string.
  3. Embellish to your liking.
