Spend the Summer with Annapolis Rec and Parks

So Many Options: Camps, Swim Team, Swimming Lessons, and More

Do you realize how fortunate we are to live in a city with so many phenomenal recreational opportunities?  The Annapolis Recreation and Parks department provides modern facilities for a wide variety of indoors and out activities and a year round calendar full of programs and events for all ages and interests.  

Summer is fast approaching and I want to make you aware of some camps and programs that might be a perfect fit for your family.

SUMMER CAMPS

If you haven't already done so, now is the time to register for Summer Camp.  Here is a break down of the three types of camps offered by Annapolis Recreation and Parks.  

Community Enrichment Camps

Camps run Mon-Fri for 6 weeks (July 11 - Aug 19) from 9am-4pm

These camps provide opportunities for Annapolis area children to meet new people and experience what Annapolis has to offer!  Camps are divided by age and provide safe, fun and affordable settings for children ages 4-12.  Some meals are provided; check the Spring and Summer 2022 Camp Guide, page 6 for details.  Scholarships and vouchers are accepted.

  • Mini Enrichment Camp, Ages 4-5

    • Campers learn social skills, teamwork, and work to improve self-confidence.  They will participate in traditional day camp activities, daily swim lessons, themed weekly activities and exciting field trips.  Held at Georgetown East Elementary School.
  • Cadet Enrichment Camp, Ages 6-8

    • This camp is designed to make new friends, build social skills and boost self-confidence.  Campers will participate in traditional day camp activities, daily swim lessons, themed weekly activities and exciting field trips.  Held at the Annapolis Walks Community Center. 
  • Junior Enrichment Camp, Ages 9-12

    • For campers looking to socialize and participate in adapted "big kid" games and activities.  The camp has themed weeks that are designed to help kids grow more independent and become more self-confident and self-aware.  Campers participate in traditional day camp activities and have "off-campus" field trips weekly.  Held at Georgetown East Elementary School.  
  • Stanton Center Day Camp, Ages 4-15

    • The center divides the children into four groups based on age.  Mini (ages 4-6), Cadet (ages 7-9), Junior 9 (ages 10-12), and Senior (ages 13-15).    


Splash Camps

Splash Camps include a variety of traditional and non-traditional sports and activities aimed to develop individual skill and teamwork.  Ages vary based on camp.  Campers will play a sport or participate in an activity and enjoy swim time at the Kenneth R. Dunn Municipal Pool at Truxtun Park.  These camps run from 9am-4pm, Monday through Friday.  Before and after care is provided for an additional fee.  Check out all of the details on page 5 of the Spring and Summer 2022 Camp Guide

Some of the activities you can choose from are:  Dance, Kayak, SUP, Fencing, Basketball, Baseball, Flag Football, Pickleball, STEAM, and Skating at the Truxtun Skate Park. 








      

Camp Annapolis

Each 2-week session (July 11-22, July 25-Aug 5, Aug 8-19) has themed weeks and field trips.  Campers enjoy age appropriate activities designed to promote social skills, teamwork and promote an atmosphere to form friendships.  Each session is divided by the age of the campers to provide a safe, fun and challenging setting.  All of these camps offer traditional day camp activities, weekly themed activities, swim lessons and a field trip every session.    

The camps operate 7:30am-6pm daily with themed activities from 9am-4pm.  Some meals are provided; check the Spring and Summer 2022 Camp Guide, page 6 for details.  Scholarships and vouchers are accepted.

  • Sprouts Camp AnnapolisAges 4-6
  • Explorers Camp Annapolis, Ages 7-9
  • Pioneers Camp Annapolis, Ages 10-12
  • Voyagers Camp Annapolis, Ages 13-15



AQUATICS

Penguin Swim Team

  • For new swimmers, divided into 3 age groups: Ages 6 and under, Ages 7-12, and Age13+.
  • Season runs May 31 through July 21 with swim meets in June and July.

Swimming Lessons

Swimming lessons are held throughout the summer at the Kenneth R. Dunn Municipal Pool at Truxtun Park.  Classes are for children 4 through adult.  

Aqua Tots

In this loosely structured class, parents learn the basic water safety skills and proper holding techniques to help youngsters adjust to the pool.  Children ages 1-3, develop pre-swimming skills such as blowing bubbles, water submersion, kicking, floating and safe entry and exit of the pool.  The Aqua Tots environment encourages social interaction and fun in the water.  At least one parent must participate in the water.  

Junior Wai Koa

This program is for ages 7-14.  Capital SUP's Live Water Foundation brings this leadership and water sports program to underserved youth and youth with learning differences.  Elements of the program include paddle boarding, on-land/on-water fitness and educational activities focused on improving the water quality in Annapolis waterways.  Wai Koa means Water Warriors in Hawaiian!  




 


OTHER PROGRAMS

Maryland Safe Boating Course

A great parent-child opportunity to learn the "rules of the road" on the water together!  Prepare for summer by taking this course that covers legal requirements, navigation rules, preparation and trailers, accidents, weather and water conditions, water sports, sailing, and personal watercraft safety.  This eight hour class and test is designed for ages 12+ and satisfies Maryland law to operate any motorized boat on Maryland waters.    

Saturday, June 4th from 8 am - 5pm  

Ages: 12+,  Participants under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult.

Fee:  $25 per person

Parent and Tot Gymnastics

  • Ages 12-36 months with parents
  • Held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15-11am
  • Parents will accompany and assist their young children through activities focusing on basic motor skills such as crawling, walking, jumping, grip strength and balance.  Parent participation is required during every class.  
  • This class is offered as a drop in!  Parents may pay for the full 8 weeks or pay the daily drop-in rate of $10 for Annapolis residents or $12 for non-residents.

  • Held in Annapolis at the "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center Aux Gym.
