S.T.E.A.M. Activities for Winter

Looking for Something Fun To Do This Winter? Try a few of these ideas.

This list of fun winter activities for kids also happens to be educational.  S.T.E.A.M. activities in this list are divided up by Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics.  Once you get started, I bet your children will think of other experiments and activities to do.        


SCIENCE

  • How do animals adapt to winter?
  • Find out which animals migrate.
  • Find out which animals hibernate.
  • Find out what happens to fish when the water freezes.
  • What happens to plants in winter?
  • Make moon phases with cookies.
  • How long does it take an ice cube to melt?  Try things to make it melt faster.
  • How do snowflakes form?
  • Experiment to see which fruits and vegetables float.
  • Experiment to find out what will melt snow?
  • Make a pinecone bird feeder.  
  • Look for animal tracks.
  • Take a hike and list 10 things in nature you found.

Technology

Engineering

  • Make ramps and tunnels for toy cars out of recycled materials.  Start with cardboard and see what else you can find to use.
  • Build a snowman
  • Build something you can use to slide on the snow.  17 DIY Ideas.
  • Build a container out of LEGOs that holds water.
