Summer Staycation Series: Treat Yourself to a Facial at Skin & Wax

By Whitney Ward, Macaroni Kid Annapolis August 13, 2020

I'm a new mom of two and believe me when I say the exhaustion is real! (But you already know that, amiright?) I knew I needed something to treat myself; something that would pamper me and give me some time alone.

Turns out, a facial is exactly that the doctor ordered.

When my friend texted me to ask if I was up for a facial, I figured why not. With two under two, it's not easy to get time to myself, and if I can get out of the house PLUS pamper myself, then I feel like I'd really be winning at this mom thing. I booked an appointment with Cate at Skin and Wax for a couple of weeks later.

Those two weeks were long, but man I looked forward to it! When the day finally arrived, I was more than ready to take some time for a little self-care. Upon arrival at Skin & Wax, I was impressed with all the precautions that were taken to ensure my safety. (Before I even arrived, a text was sent to my phone with step-by-step instructions of the procedures and protocols of the building.) Cate, the owner, greeted me at the door offering hand sanitizer and I was asked to fill out a COVID screening questionnaire while she took my temperature.

Afterward, I got settled and the treatment began. Cate asked many questions gaining knowledge on my skincare routines while assessing my actual skin. As I sank into a relaxed state I can't tell you the exact number of steps or the precise order that she did things in. What I can tell you is that it was the most relaxed and wonderful thing I’ve done for myself in months. Various cleanses and masks were applied to my face followed by extractions with an electric tool which made it much less painful than my previous experiences at other establishments. Then the best part in my opinion was the massage rollers; both warm and chilled rollers were applied as well as an absolutely fabulous arm and hand massage.

After the treatment ended I perused the front lobby while Cate wrote out a personal “Skin Fitness Plan” which discussed my skin goals and the daily regimen to accomplish them. I was also offered a few of the products she had used on my skin during the treatment. I highly recommend treatments at Skin and Wax and will most assuredly be going back.

I left feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and looking fabulous. What mama wouldn’t love that?
