44 Resources on Racial Injustice/Inequality & Strong Black Leads

Resources geared towards school-aged children or parents of school-aged children.

Yesterday, I put out a post on a local mom's group asking for help gathering resources to pass along to all of you to assist in discussing not only racism and injustice, but also discussing and demonstrating strong black roles in books and other media.

A local mom, Calynn Evans, jumped in to help and personally vetted 44 resources that speak to racial injustice and equality and/or provide examples of mediums with strong black leads. She explained that it's important that we focus on the entire narrative, and not just racism. We have to include people of color in the same light and make it just as common and mainstream to see a black lead in a TV show as a white lead. Representation matters.

The list she provided is just the tip of the iceberg. Racial inequality and injustice are not just black and white, literally and figuratively, and hopefully, someday we can have her back to do a deep dive into all of the various aspects.

For now, though, she has provided an amazing list of resources specifically geared towards either school-aged children or parents of school-aged children. She adds, "for babies and toddlers, the best option is just exposing them to books that have other races."

Thank you, Calynn, for helping us educate ourselves and our families.
