Family Date Night: The Melting Pot

By Nicole Donnelly, Macaroni Kid Annapolis June 13, 2018

The Melting Pot restaurant is my go-to restaurant when planning a girls night out with friends or a much-needed date night with my husband. I think I fall into the large category of people who assume(d) The Melting Pot is for adults only or solely for special occasions. But during our last visit, I made sure to pay special attention to the kid-friendly options to determine whether it'd be a good stop for one of our "family dates." Here's what I found.

When we arrived at the restaurant, we were greeted by a friendly host who specifically asked if we would have any children in our party. (+1 point for The Melting Pot.) We didn't have any this time, but I was glad to see that it is on their minds.

We were seated and handed menus. I mentally made my selections and then checked the menu for a kids section. I didn't see one, so I made sure to ask our server when he arrived to take our drink orders. We were informed that they do have a kids menu. What he returned with made me super happy. Their kids' menu consists of Fun-due and Kid Cocktails!  How fun is that?!

I couldn't help myself and had to order a Kid Cocktail. Along with my iced tea, I asked for a chocolate milk. Big deal, right? Well, it is. Because this chocolate milk is no ordinary milk. It is milk shaken with chocolate syrup and vanilla ice cream for a cold and creamy treat. Can you say "amazing?!" It was such a flashback to my own childhood. My kids would devour it, and aside from the amazing chocolate milk, there is a Coop's Cheery Luau kid cocktail and a Very Berry Lemonade.

The kids Fun-Due menu features many of the same options that the adult menu does: chicken, teriyaki sirloin, shrimp, salmon, pork medallion, and pasta.

For those who might not be as familiar with The Melting Pot, an adult meal typically consists of four courses -- a cheese fondue, salad, fondue entree, and chocolate fondue dessert.  You choose your cheese fondue, salad, entree fondue AND dessert fondue. Your server brings the ingredients for your selected fondues to your table and mixes it together right at your table, resulting in built in entertainment suitable for your children. The cheese fondues work especially well for kids since it comes with bread chunks, apple pieces, and fresh vegetables. Is there any better combination to keep kids happy?

For your entree, the server again makes your fondue at the table, then brings individual plates of raw meat cubes (yes, raw, but you are warned about touching), a variety of sauces in petite bowls, long-handled forks for each of us (each person has their own color so you don't mix up your forks while they're cooking), plates for your cooked meats, and bowls of vegetables. Your food cooks in the fondue while you enjoy family time together.

Toward the end of our entrees, our bellies are usually pretty full. But you simply cannot leave without having dessert. Each pot of your selected fondue comes with a large tray of fruit chunks; pound cake, blondies, and brownies; Rice Krispie treat squares; and marshmallows. It is sinfully delicious.

The Melting Pot, the most perfect location for a family date night, girls night out, date night, or any special occasion, is conveniently located at 2348 Solomons Island Rd.

We cannot wait to bring our kids to enjoy the experience that is dining at The Melting Pot.

The Melting Pot Annapolis offers a Girls’ Night Out special the second and third Monday of each month.  Enjoy a four-course dinner for $30. Mention Macaroni Kid when you arrive!

My guests and I were hosted at The Melting Pot for the purposes of this review. No other compensation was received and all opinions are my own.
