I know what you’re thinking, summer is over. It’s back to school time for the kids. Fall sports and activities are starting. But there’s still so much sunshine left to enjoy! This weekend we had visitors in town and wanted to treat them to a true Annapolis experience. We had so much fun taking them to some our favorite restaurants and walking around downtown.
We wanted to take the whole crew (3 adults, 3 kids) to do something fun and not bake in the sun. We decided on stand up paddle boarding. Sunrise SUP located at the Pier 7 Marina is a perfect spot to paddle board with the whole family. Not only is the water calm, but you launch from a beach. Have you ever tried launching from a dock? It’s doable, but maybe not for the kid’s first try.
The staff was really patient with us as we got ourselves situated. They provide life jackets and boards with the rental and offered to show us a video tutorial. All of this was really helpful since doing anything with young kids can be a big production and we definitely left one of their life jackets at home!
We picked an hour rental and mostly stayed close to shore, but there are some nice little inlets in the area with beautiful homes and boats to view. If you’re brave, you can go quite far, even under the South River Bridge. My son got really excited when I pointed out the bridge because we go over it every day, so to be under it was a fun thing for him!
If you want to try something a bit more challenging, Sunrise SUP also has SUP Yoga. I tried this last year and it is so fun. They also have group paddles and summer camp so there is truly something for everyone in the family! You can rent a board from them or bring your own. I’m challenging you to continue to enjoy this summer weather before fall rolls in. Soak up the sun and savor this awesome area we live in! Seriously, the snow will be here before we know it.
