These hot, humid days of summer will be coming to an end in just a few, short weeks. Pools will be closing, pumpkin spice will be everywhere you look… and I just signed up my 4-year-old for swimming lessons with Coach Joe Pascale. This may seem like odd timing, but hear me out. Here are a few reasons why Fall is the perfect time to begin swimming lessons:
- My son has until next summer to perfect swimming, so I will feel comfortable letting him jump right in on opening day at the pool!
- With outdoor activities becoming more limited as the weather gets colder, it’s a great way to let him expend his seemingly endless energy.
- Because fewer parents think about starting their kids in swim lessons in the Fall, it’s much easier to obtain your preferred date and time for the lessons.
- What kid wouldn’t want to jump in an indoor, heated pool when it’s 50 degrees outside??
- Water safety! Ok, this isn’t exactly “Fall” related, but anytime is a good time to teach kids about water safety and drowning prevention.
Over the coming weeks, I will be documenting my son’s swim lessons with Coach Joe Pascale. (Hint: We are two lessons in and I couldn’t be happier!)
Coach Joe competed collegiately at Auburn University, where he specialized in the 50 and 100 meter freestyle, as well as the 100 meter backstroke. He was also a member of the 2004 and 2005 NCAA Championships National Team. After college, Joe completed his swimming career at the 2012 Olympic trials.
Joe now runs his own business, specializing in swim training and athlete consulting. He offers private and group swim lessons from beginner to competitive. He also offers calisthenics, nutrition, and triathlete training.
