Your Kids Could Name the Sheriff's Office new K9!

January 19, 2017
Sheriff Ron Bateman is asking our area youth to help him name our new four legged addition to the Sheriff’s Office. Grim, a dual purpose Patrol and Bomb Detection K9, and his handler, Cpl. Jett, have patrolled the county and courthouse for almost 9 years. Grim is set to retire in March and Sheriff Bateman has recently purchased his replacement, a Dutch Shepherd. The soon to be named dog is undergoing basic training and is set to hit the streets in April.

Sheriff Bateman is reaching out to children, attending first through fifth grade at a school in Anne Arundel County, to name our new K9. All submissions need to be sent via email to the Sheriff’s attention at shwebmail@aacounty.org. The student’s entries should include their name, grade, school and letter with their chosen K9 name. We are only accepting one name per student. All entries need to be submitted by January 31, 2017.

The top three finalists will be chosen by Sheriff Bateman. The winner will receive a $25.00 gift certificate to Mission BBQ, a K9 demonstration for their class and the winner and his/her principal will appear on the Anne Arundel’s Most Wanted TV show. The 2 runner ups will receive $25.00 gift certificates to Mission BBQ.

Our current K9’s, 2 German Shepherds and a Belgian Malinois are named Carlo, Jango(Fett) and Chase and are handled by Deputies Goodman, Costin and Byers. Sheriff Bateman’s canines are assigned to warrant apprehension teams and to the Circuit Courthouse. Additionally they provide demonstrations for many youth organizations throughout Anne Arundel County and the Sheriff is excited for the kids to be a part of naming this new member of his Team. Deadline for entries to shwebmail@aacounty.org is January 31, 2017.
